018. Erode Manjal (Erode Turmeric)

Erode Turmeric or Erodu Manjal is a type of turmeric, a spice category which is grown in the Erode region of Tamil Nadu, India. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is, a perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family. The plant’s underground stems or rhizomes have been used as spice, dye, medicine and religious maker since antiquity. 

Ground Turmeric comes from fingers, which extend from the root. It is boiled or steamed and then dried and ground. It is used extensively in Indian and South East Asian cooking. Erode turmeric is known for its high curcumin a bright yellow phenolic compound that has been in the news for its ostensible potential to fight cancer.
