018. Erode Manjal (Erode Turmeric)

Erode Turmeric or Erodu Manjal is a type of turmeric, a spice category which is grown in the Erode region of Tamil Nadu, India. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is, a perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family. The plant’s underground stems or rhizomes have been used as spice, dye, medicine and religious maker since antiquity. 

Ground Turmeric comes from fingers, which extend from the root. It is boiled or steamed and then dried and ground. It is used extensively in Indian and South East Asian cooking. Erode turmeric is known for its high curcumin a bright yellow phenolic compound that has been in the news for its ostensible potential to fight cancer.

011. Tulaipanji Rice

Tulaipanji Rice is an Indian aromatic rice grown mainly in the Raiganj subdivision of Uttar Dinajpur district and some pockets of Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal. The aroma and quality of this rice variety are strongly associated with its native origin.

Tulaipanji is categorized as 'non-Basmati aromatic rice' and is traditionally grown without using any fertilizer in mid-land to high-land condition and preferably in jute harvested fields, after rainy season during the August–December period.

Tulaipanji has medium-long slender grain. Cooked rice is tasty, good in texture, bright in appearance, non-sticky and friable due to high amylose content.  The rice is excellent for preparation of pulao, fried rice and biryani. Tulaipanji is also much appreciated for its pest resistance quality and can long upto one year.

010. Molakalmuru Sarees

Molakalmuru Sarees are the traditional silk sarees that are weaved in the Molakalmuru, Chitradurga district, Karnataka, India. The patterns, motifs and designs used in border, pallu & buttas of Molakalmuru silk saree are inspired by nature.

These sarees received special patronage during the ruling of Nalvadi Krishnarajendra Wadeyar, the prince of then Mysore province. 

These sarees are famous for their kuttu - manual interlacement of border & body weft using 3 throw shuttles and chalu technique - joining of existing warp ends with new warp ends at pallu & body portion

The uniqueness of the saree is its contrast colour in pallu and border portions as compared to the colour of body portion. 

Mainly dark colours like Maroon, Red, Blue, Mustard, Green, Yellow, Snuff, Pink, Black are used in Molakalmuru sarees. 

The traditional designs of Molakalmuru sarees are Hamsa, Rudrakshi, Vanki, Lotus, Peacock, Mangoes, Gandaberunda etc. Their pleasing geometric shape and interlocking symmetry adds a lot of beauty to the garment.
