021. Odisha Rasagola

Odisha Rasagola a mouthwatering culinary delight made of cottage cheese. During the festival of “Niladri Bije", Lord Jagannath offers rasagola to his disgruntled consort Goddess Laxmi on his return from a nine-day-long Rath Yatra.

Odisha rasagola have their unique identity which is very soft to feel, juicy and non-chewy in consistency, and can be swallowed without teeth pressure. The chenna water of curdled milk is not all drained out which makes chenna soft and gives aroma.  The dough is mixed with semolina in 4:1 ratio for bonding and sugar syrup is much stronger here.

Generally, the Odisha rasagola is white in colour with round shape (non‐ spherical) but off white rasagolas in various shades are also prepared. Colour development of Odisha rasagola is very specific, where without addition of external colour, various intensity coloured rasagolas are prepared using the principle of caramalisation of sugar with specific methods of preparation.

017. Ilkal Sarees

Ilkal Sarees, labelled after a town located in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, has its history dating back to the 8th century AD. It is lightweight, multi-functional, and of pure elegance. The burst of red in the signature style Ilkal pallus is exclusive to this weave. 

The saree has a unique weaving and knotting technique (topi teni) between the warp threads of the saree body and the saree pallu which are woven separately on different looms. 

The traditional Ilkal saree’s body is woven with cotton, while the border is made of artificial/pure silk or vice versa.  Four type of designs are predominantly seen on the borders - Chikki Paras, Gomi, Zari, and Gayatri. The colour of Border and Pallu warp will be the same whereas body warp colour will be contrast to the colour of border and pallu.

016. Mysore Traditional Paintings

Mysore traditional paintings are important form of classical South Indian painting that originated in and around the town of Mysore in Karnataka encouraged and nurtured by the Mysore rulers. The distinct school of Mysore painting evolved from the paintings of Vijayanagar times during the reign of the Vijayanagar Kings (1336-1565 AD). 

Mysore paintings are known for their elegance, muted colours, and attention to detail. The themes for most of these paintings are Hindu gods and goddesses and scenes from Hindu mythology. The paintings are characterized by their delicate lines and intricate brush strokes. 

The ancient painters in Mysore prepared their own materials. The colours were from natural sources and were of vegetable or mineral substances such as leaves, stones and flowers. Brushes were made with squirrel hairs for delicate work, but for drawing superfine lines, a brush made of pointed blades of a special variety of grass had to be used. Due to the long-lasting quality of the stone- and plant-based colours used, the original Mysore paintings retain their freshness and lustre even today. 

Gold plating is done to preserve the grandeur over a long time. The mural paintings can be seen on the walls of palaces in Mysuru.

015. Mysore Malligae

Mysore Malligae a variety of jasmine not only has unmatched fragrance, but also an inextricable link with the royal city of Mysore. The botanical name is Jasminum Grandiflorum and belongs to Oleaceae family. Fragrance of Mysore Malligae variety is powerful and it lasts longer too. 

It grows in profusion in the open areas either in exclusive farmland, in front or at the backyard of houses. The sandy loam soil with comparatively high pH prevailing in the region makes a congenial ground for growing this crop. The dry and warm weather with low humidity is also make it favourable for the crop.

Mysore Mallige plant can grow upto 9 feet in height. Leaves of this plant are green, glossy and ovate. Flowers are white and are fragrant.

014. Tripura Queen Pineapple

Tripura Queen Pineapple the state fruit of Tripura is a much revered crop of the farmers. 013. Swamimalai Bronze Icons

Swamimalai Bronze Icons refers to bronze idols and statues manufactured in Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu. The skillfully crafted Swamimalai bronze idols are some of the most sought after artifacts by art lovers and connoisseurs throughout the world.

Though bronze icon making is an age-old Indian tradition, it was only during the Chola dynasty that this craft rose to the significance and occupied a central position in Indian culture and Hindu worship. Most of such bronze icons are manufactured by Sthapathies. Ancestors of these Sthapathies built the famous Sri Brahadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur during Raja Raja Chola period. After the construction of this great temple, a group of Sthapathies migrated to Swamimalai. 

The statues made mainly include that of Hindu deities. Other icons of animals, figures of males and females are also cast based on requirements. The statues are made using the technique of wax casting and the cast can be of two types - solid and hollow cast. 

During historic times, the molten metal was an alloy of five metals: gold, silver, copper, zinc and lead, known as Panchaloha. As gold and silver are expensive, they are replaced by tin and iron.

Dahanu Gholvad Chikoo is grown in Gholvad village in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. This region is famous for its production of quality Chikoo and is known as the Chikoo Bowl of Maharashtra.
