111. Mysore Sandal Soap

Mysore sandal soap is derived out of hundred percent (100%) biodegradable pure vegetable oil soap base with well-blended natural Sandalwood Oil based fragrance. It is in woody ‘ochre’ in colour.

It is toilet soap based on pure natural Sandalwood perfume along with natural essential oils viz Clove, Patchouli, Geranium, Palmrosa, Petitgrain, Orange oil etc., which would act as natural skincare conditioners known since from ancient Ayurvedic times.

The soap is in unique oval shape and neatly wrapped in Glassine paper to protect the fragrance, moisture and freshness of soap, packed in traditional carton boxes. 150 g pack in round shape and Baby Soap in S Oval Shape are also available.

In the early 20th century, the Mysore Kingdom in India was one of the largest producers of sandalwood in the world. It was also one of the major exporters of the wood, most of which was exported to Europe.

During the First World War, large reserves of sandalwood were left over because they could not be exported due to the war. To make good use of these reserves, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the king of Mysore, established the Government Soap Factory in Bangalore.

The main raw materials for soap manufacturing are Oils, Fats, Caustic Soda, Sodium Chloride, Water, Colour, Perfume and Preservatives. The process of making Mysore Sandal Soap involves receiving and blending of raw materials at required stoichiometric prepositions, boiled with open steam and then allowed for settling.

Soap obtained is dried in a spray dryers to convert to Soap noodles with required moisture content. It is then mixed with perfume, colour and other various additives and passed through series of extrusion operations to attain homogeneity and finishing of the product.

From 1980, the factory was incorporated under a company named Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited. Sharabha, a mythological creature having a body of a lion and the head of an elephant, was chosen as the logo of the company. The company has since diversified, and manufactures incense sticks, talcum powder, and detergents, apart from soaps.

Mysore Sandal Soap made from vegetable oils, contains pure natural Mysore sandalwood oil, along with skin care conditioners and moisturizers. Sandalwood oil- a nature’s gift, emanates lingering fragrance, keeps your skin glowing, soft, blemish-free, forever young and beautiful.
